WHAT WE DO

Key Focus Areas

The moon tells the sky,
The sky tells the sea,
The sea tells the tide,
And the tide tells me.

RESCUE, REHABILITATION

Wildlife

Amy is a trained volunteer wildlife rescuer.  She is currently working on WIRES accreditation for care and rehabilitation.  Amy is beyond totally in love with all wildlife, but especially Tasmanian pademelons.  Gary works in Antarctic conservation and is a very keen wildlife and landscape photographer, especially where birds are in view.

Arts, Crafts, Trades

Amy and Gary were inspired by a presentation on the combined effort of scientists and artists using pottery to build experimental burrows for little penguins.  Suddenly art and creativity had a new and very practical purpose.  From nest boxes, to joey pouches, to penguin burrows – we are energised by bringing humans together for the kind, creative good.

Creative Ecosystem

We are keen to connect with people around us who are using their creative abilities to help wildlife. We all have skills and networks we can share – so let’s get together! If you have a passion for arts, crafts, and trades and also love nature and people, we would love to hear about what’s happening in your neck of the woods and how we can be involved.

GOOD THINGS GROW

Education

There are piles of studies and personal experiences describing the transformative power of experiencing nature and animals in a deeply personal way. This has benefits for all ages and stages throughout the human lifespan. Cultivating a respect for nature and animals helps nurture creativity, growth, and compassion in ourselves and our societies.

A NOTE ON EXTINCTION

Ecologist Aldo Leopold (1887-1948) warned of the dangers of knowing animals only from captivity, books, and museums. Writing about the extinction of the North American passenger pigeon, he penned an ominous warning about the many other species in jeopardy – and also ourselves.

There will always be pigeons in books and in museums, but these are effigies and images, dead to all hardships and to all delights…. They know no urge of seasons; they feel no kiss of sun, no lash of wind and weather; they live forever by not living at all.
